My Choice Was Easy

September 22nd, 2008

Politics

The more I talk with friends and listen to interviews with ‘Heartland Voters’ the more I become concerned for my country.  The word politics is now a derogatory word.  More and more I see voters losing trust in our elected officials.  It’s not distrust of the system, but of the people and parties running the system.

Who can blame them?  Since the 1970s, we have seen disregard for our constitution bordering on treason.  While it is true, some politicians have done the best they could under the circumstances.  Others line their pockets and bolster their egos by pandering to those who need favors the least.

It is for those reasons I choose the Obama-Bidden ticket for president.  Not because of a campaign slogan, but because they are the best qualified to make intellectual decisions about Americas future.

In my opinion, if the McCain-Palin ticket gets into office, we will see fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants government making devastating uneducated decisions.  Decisions for which the U.S. military, middle class America, and our planet will pay the price.

From what I have seen John McCain and Sarah Palin will make the sexual indiscretions of the Clinton administration look like Sunday school.  In addition, our current president may be correct in his prediction on how history will look back at his administration.  Compared to a McCain-Palin White House, he may well look acceptable.  If you think about it – George W. Bush has made George H. W. Bush look good!

Beer Buddy or College Grad?

Some Americans want a president whom they can “relate to.”  I do not want someone in the White House with whom I would like to have a beer.  I want a president who can kick my butt at history, geography, world economics, international politics, and Trivial Pursuit.  Not an egomaniac adulterating military pilot so incompetent he crashed his jet five times!

An Obama-Biden presidency will have the proven intelligence to make decisions based on the facts and shared opinions from multiple sources – including the American people!  An Obama-Biden presidency will be open to ideas that benefit the whole of America, not just the few.

Race?

It breaks my heart to know some voters across Arkansas and around the country are still afraid to elect a black man.  Are you crazy?  I thought that was settled with the civil war and the civil rights act in the 1960s.  Let’s rise up and move ahead!  Besides, those middle age white guys have not done such a good job lately.  It is time for a new approach!  For disclosure – I am a middle age white guy.

Religion?

Then there are the false stories of Barack Obama’s religion.  He is a Christian!  Barack does not use his Christianity as a selling point for his political aspirations.  Even if he were Muslim, he is still better qualified to be president than anyone else running is.

Those Taxing Democrats?

For those afraid of the so-called ‘bigger government’ the Democrats will usher in, calm your fears.  Instead of bailing out the big corporations with $85 billion of our tax money, the Obama-Biden presidency will have the foresight to head-off the cause of the bank failures.  Instead of repairing the financial levees after the storm, they will help the American people fend off the mortgage storm from the start.

With an Obama administration instead of ‘Yes We Can’, it is more like the Home Depot slogan – ‘You can do it, we can help.’  No bridges to nowhere, no BS about WMDs, just honest intelligent government of the people, by the people, for the people.
